Описание
Sicily - Sicily - Syracuse. Gold 100 litrai or double decadrachm, ca. 400 BC. Obv. ΣΥΡΑΚΟ-ΣΙΩΝ. Head of Arethusa left, hair in sakkos adorned with a star, wearing triple-pendant earring and necklace. Barley grain to right. Rev. [ΣΥ]ΡΑΚΟΣΙΩ[Ν]. Herakles kneeling right, strangling the Nemean Lion; barley grain on rocks below. Coll. Hunt 87 (same reverse die); SNG ANS 320 (same reverse die) & 321 (same obverse die). Gold. 5.77 g.

It is from the same reverse dies of that of good number of signed examples on the obverse and must, logically, belong to the same striking or even to the same group. Its reverse die in particular is characterized by the presence of a grape leaf in the field and a rocky ground strewn with plant elements at the feet of Herakles. It seems even much more rare, since no other example associating these obverse and reverse dies appear to have been published.
Ce superbe double décadrachme en or est attribuable à Kimon malgré l’absence de signature (KI) à l’avers, sous le grain de blé. Il est de même coin de revers que bon nombre d’exemplaires signés au droit et doit, logiquement, appartenir à la même émission voire au même groupe. Son coin de revers très particulier se caractérise par la présence d’une feuille de vigne dans le champ et d’un sol rocailleux parsemé d’éléments végétaux aux pieds d’Héraclès. Il semble même beaucoup plus rare, puisque qu’aucun autre exemplaire associant ces coins de droit et de revers ne paraît avoir été publié.
